Ah, that was cathartic

Fri May 15, 2009, 1:55 PM
So I've now written three very introspective sets of lyrics. I think that'll do for now. It's funny how writing can cheer you up right proper sometimes. I was feeling vaguely down last night, for no particular reason, so I decided to produce some really miserable poetry. Except writing it turned into so much fun that I ended up enjoying myself far too much and having to resist the temptation to rhyme "midnight sun" with "cream bun".

I dunno if the same applies to creative stuff more generally- I can't draw to save my life, as my icon attests- but I heartily recommend the process to anyone who's feeling depressed at any point. It seems to be very therapeutic. And I've completely killed my desire to write any more poetry about my own thought processes, which is a result for everybody on the planet, I think.

Actually, that icon really is hideous. Anybody kind-hearted out there feel like making me a new one? I don't have any particular requirements, just anything but that mess of a scribble. I'll... I'll write you a poem? Or something? I don't really know. I could promise not to make any self-indulgent journals for a month.

Oh, yeah, also: turns out I'm not the only person to use the word "millennial" to describe our generation. There are books about it. Result.

(WHY CAN I NOT SPELL MILLENNIAL?)

  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: Green Day- 21st Century Breakdown
  • Reading: All Quiet on the Western Front
  • Watching: Top Gear. Far too much Top Gear.
  • Playing: Dear Esther
  • Eating: I want another cream bun now
  • Drinking: Tropicana (smooth, obviously)

Hey there. It has that. How's it going? :) Don't worry, you haven't missed very much, I haven't been very prolific recently.
Life's pretty good, I must say. I've been busy with college, work & social duties as usual. But I've rediscovered this lovely site thanks to a new friend, and I've decided to jump back into some of my long lost hobbies again :) How are you?

Not so bad, yeah. Still writing, more or less, although it's a different kind from what it used to be, a bit more serious and rather more pretentious as well. Chalk that one up to too much education. I'm working as a language-teaching assistant next year, though, so I'll get to offload it on other people instead. :P
I've read some of your new stuff...excellent, as usual. But you're right...different from 'back in the day' :) As for too much education, what was/is your major? I, too, am submitting myself to the joys of continued education, as a 'Conservation & Wildlife Management' major--different, I know--with hopes to minor in English. My creative butt was kicked into shape thanks to the english elective I took this semester; it was quite heavy on the writing, especially poetry & short stories (not sure if I really expected otherwise haha, considering it was called 'Creative Writing' ) so I'll be posting a lot of that once Im done tweaking it. Im currently writing my final short story for the course, in which I must 'become' Jack London and write in his style. That knocking sound you are hearing? Yea...that's my head pounding into my brick dorm wall.
